How might design inspire people to address climate change?

Planet Greenhouse is a light installation that visualises the effect of greenhouse gases on the planet.

While art seeks to inspire people, design uses methodologies that focus on problem solving and behaviour change. Therefore, the intersection of art and design, when backed by scientific evidence, is a powerful tool for engaging people in topics that might otherwise seem vast and difficult.

We see an increasing role for art and design to describe science in a way that emotionally resonates with people and engages them to get involved in the fight against climate change. This is important because we believe Climate Change is the defining issue of our generation, but we know confronting it can be scary and lead to feelings of helplessness. Our work aims to be a call to action while encouraging an optimistic perspective on the impact individuals can have.
